Knowling, Beurman Chart Wins to Lead Hanover at the Spring Games

CLERMONT, Fla. - The Panthers recorded two wins on day three of the Spring Games as they swept Northern Vermont-Johnson 15-0 before defeating St. Joseph's (Brkln) 5-4 on a rainy afternoon in Clermont, Fla.

Hanover (4-2 overall) was led on the afternoon by junior Lily Beurman (Evansville, Ind.) and freshman Paige Knowling (New Market, Ind.) who both registered wins in the circle. Knowling opened the afternoon against Northern Vermont-Johnson recording a one hit shutout with three strikeouts. Beurman picked up the win in the night cap as she tallied her second complete game of the week against St. Joseph's (Brkln) with a game-high 11 strikeouts.

In the 5-4 decision with St. Joseph's, the Blue and Red found themselves in a 3-0 deficit before a third inning outburst. In the top half of the inning freshman Katherine Dickinson (Francisco, Ind.) singled before junior Rachel Cox (Indianapolis, Ind.) drew a walk placing a Panther runner in scoring position. Senior Shelby Edington (New Goshen, Ind.) provided the clutch hit as she hit a strong triple scoring both Dickinson and Cox, 3-2. The final run of the inning came off the bat of sophomore Kiley Sherdon (Cloverdale, Ind.) who sent a sacrifice fly to deep center scoring Edington.

Beurman worked her magic in the circle holding the Bears scoreless before a productive sixth inning. Hanover tacked on two more runs as Edington again proved clutch at the dish with a double that scored Cox and Dickinson pushing the Panther lead to 5-3.

St. Joseph's looked to rally in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single up the middle that pulled them within 5-4. However, Beurman remained fierce in the circle as she was able to retire the side with her 10th strike out at the plate before getting a three-up, three-down seventh inning.

The contest with Northern Vermont-Johnson saw Knowling dominate the circle pitching a one hit shutout, while Edington charted six RBI on three hits.

The offensive outburst happened in the bottom of the second inning as freshman Nikki Bridgers (Florence, Ky.) hit a single that scored junior Brittany Ralston (Hanover, Ind.) before a Cox double plated another Hanover run. Edington opened her stellar day with a double and a triple for two of the team's 12 hits en route to the 15-0 victory.

Hanover returns to action on Thursday, February 26 as they take on Alma at 10:00 AM.
