HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover women's basketball team has released its schedule for the 2017-18 season.
The Panthers are coming off a 2016-17 campaign which saw a four-win improvement overall and six-win jump in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play from the previous year. In Year Two under head coach John Jones, the Blue and Red posted a 13-13 overall mark and an 11-7 record in conference play, earning the fourth seed in the HCAC Tournament.
Hanover will play seven non-conference games this upcoming winter, with all of them coming in November and December. Highlighting the non-conference schedule is a pair of tournaments in the state of Ohio. The Panthers will compete in the Nan Nichols Classic at the College of Wooster Nov. 18 and 19. The second tournament will be held Dec. 29 and 30 at Wittenberg University.
The Blue and Red will kick off the new season inside Collier Arena Wednesday, Nov. 15, when they welcome Spalding (Ky.) for a 7 p.m. tipoff. The Panthers will also host Centre (Ky.) in the non-conference slate.
Conference play begins with four games during the month of December, including home contests with Transylvania on Dec. 6 and Bluffton Dec. 9. The Panthers will also face Franklin and Defiance on the road before the New Year.
Hanover's first crack at the 2016-17 HCAC regular season and tournament champions, Rose-Hulman, will be Wednesday, Jan. 3, when the team travels to Terre Haute, Ind. for a 7 p.m. contest. The Panthers and Engineers will meet at Hanover on the final day of January, at 7 p.m., as well.
The Panthers home contest with RHIT kicks off a four-game home stand, which is a part of five home games over the final six contests of the regular season. The regular season finale will come against Defiance, at home, Saturday, Feb. 17.
If Hanover finishes in the top six of the conference standings, they will qualify for the HCAC Tournament, which will take place Feb. 20-24.
