HANOVER, Ind. – D3hoops.com announced its 17th annual All-Region award winners Tuesday morning, with sophomore Maleha Motter (Danville, Ind.) becoming just the third individual in Hanover women's basketball history to receive honors from the organization.
Motter was named to the Great Lakes' third team after her record-breaking performance in 2017-18. The sophomore set the new standard for most rebounds in a single season, tallying 299 over 27 games. With a few NCAA Tournament games still to be played around the country, she is currently 27th in the nation in total rebounds and her 11.1 boards per game is among the top 40 in NCAA Division III. Doing most of her damage on the defensive glass, where she ranks 14th nationally, Motter captured nearly nine rebounds per game.
The 2017-18 HCAC first team selection was the only player in the HCAC to average a double-double this season, recording 13.3 points per game to go along with her rebounding mark. The sophomore led the conference and is among the top 60 in the country in total double-doubles this season, tallying 11.
With 15 double-digit rebounding games this winter, Motter broke the program's single season rebound record, which was previously set by Molly Martin ('11) during the 2007-08 campaign. Martin and Laura Little ('05) are the only other two Hanover women's basketball players to receive all-region accolades from D3hoops. Motter is the first HC player to do so since Martin was named to the second and third teams in 2009-10 and 2010-11, respectively.
The Panthers finished 18-9 overall and 13-5 in the HCAC this season, capturing the No. 4 seed in the conference tournament for the second consecutive year. Hanover finished the season strong, winning six of their final seven outings en route to an 11-5 record once the calendar turned to 2018.
