HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover College Panthers tip-off Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday, Dec. 4 with a trip to area rival Franklin before hosting Manchester on Saturday, Dec. 7 for the team's home-opener.
REVIEW: The Blue and Red enter the week 1-3 overall after dropping a non-conference battle at Centre, 74-61. The Panthers were led in the contest by senior Katie Hartman (Madison, Ind.) with a game-high 20 points, shooting 50 percent from the floor with a perfect 3-for-3 mark from three-point. Junior Savannah Courtney (Lawrenceburg, Ky.) chipped in 14 points with three boards, while senior Alexis Nall (Mount Vernon, Ind.) pulled in a team-high 11 rebounds.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: As a team, the Blue and Red enter HCAC action averaging 53.5 ppg while grabbing 33.8 rpg. Leading the rebound brigade is Nall with a team and conference best 9.5 rebounds per contest. Savannah Courtney currently ranks among the best in the HCAC in field goal percentage (50.0) while teammate Katie Hartman cracks the top five in three-point percentage (44.4).
HCAC OPENER: The Panthers have won three straight HCAC openers with the two most recent victories coming against area rival Franklin. The teams last faulter came in 2015-16 when the Blue and Red dropped a tight 76-70 road contest at Manchester.
SCOUTING THE GRIZZLIES: Hanover currently holds a five-game win streak against the Grizzlies, including back-to-back sweeps. The last time Franklin defeated the Panthers dates back to the 2016-17 season when the Grizzlies claimed the 70-63 overtime thriller. Franklin enters the 2019-20 contest 2-1 overall with its most recent victory coming against Olivet, 66-46. The Grizzlies are led this season by junior Bayleigh Walker averaging 13.3 ppg, while teammate sophomore Britney Ballard adds 12.0 ppg.
SCOUTING MANCHESTER: The Panthers currently hold a six-game win streak over the Spartans and have won the last six match-ups inside Collier Arena dating back to the 2012-13 season. The Spartans enter their HCAC opener on Saturday at 3-2 overall led by senior Nicole Weaver averaging 11.2 ppg. Sophomore Miranda Bieghler enters the weekend at 9.4 ppg, while teammate sophomore Macy Miller leads the team in rebounds averaging 6.2 rpg.
