HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover College women's basketball team travels north to take on Defiance in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday, Dec. 14. Tip-off is set for 1 PM.
BATTLE OF UNBEATEN: Both the Panthers and the Yellow Jackets enter the contest with a perfect 2-0 HCAC record. Hanover enters the weekend with victories over Franklin (70-58) and Manchester (72-65), while Defiance has claimed a buzzer beater triumph against Anderson (56-54) and Rose-Hulman (53-43).
NALL WITH THE BALL: Senior Alexis Nall (Mount Vernon, Ind.) was named the HCAC Athlete of the Week for Dec. 2-8 after averaging a double-double with 22.0 ppg and 16.5 rpg. The senior forward netted a game and season-high 30 points, with 24 coming in the first half, against Manchester while also reeling in a game-high 18 rebounds. The preseason All-American ranks among the top 25 in the country in rebounds per game while leading the HCAC with 11.8 per contest.
SERIES HISTORY: The Panthers currently hold a five-game win streak over Defiance with their last loss coming in 2016-17 when the Yellow Jackets defeated Hanover inside the confines of Collier Arena, 75-49. However, the Blue and Red have traveled north well holding a 5-1 overall road record, dating back to the 2013-14 season.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: As a team, the Blue and Red are averaging 59.3 ppg with 36.2 rebounds per contest paced by Alexis Nall. Senior, teammate, Katie Hartman (Madison, Ind.) is nipping at her heals averaigng 12.8 ppg while shooting a team-leading 41.2 percent form behind the arc. Senior Brooke Todd (Vevay, Ind.) continues to dominate at the point guard position dishing out a team-best 3.2 assists per contest.
SCOUTING THE YELLOW JACKETS: The Purple and Gold have posted a 2-4 overall record after defeating Rose-Hulman 53-43. The Yellow Jackets were led in the contest by freshman Lexie Sparks with 16 points off the bench while junior Kalyn Pickens added 12 points and three steals. Leading Defiance this season is sophomore Taylor Day averaging a team-best 9.5 points per game with 5.2 rebounds per contest.
