Balanced Attack Propels Panthers Past Rose-Hulman

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Hanover women's basketball team remained perfect in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action as they defeated Rose-Hulman Saturday afternoon, 67-48.

Hanover (5-5 overall, 4-0 HCAC) finished the contest shooting 46.3 percent from the floor including 11 three-pointers and a game-high 37 rebounds. The Blue and Red also dished out 22 assists on 25 made field golas, led by senior Brooke Todd (Vevay,Ind.) with a career-high 11 helpers. Senior Katie Hartman (Madison, Ind.) finsihed with a game-high 19 points while shooting 5-of-8 from three-point. 

The Blue and Red opened the contest with an 11-0 run led by back-to-back scores from junior Savannah Courtney (Lawrenceburg, Ky.). However, the Fightin' Engineers responded pulling within 14-12 when senior Alexis Nall (Mount Vernon, Ind.) dealt clutch with a three-pointer in the final seconds to give HC the first quarter advantage, 22-14.

The second quarter saw the Panther hot shooting continue from deep as seniors Kristin Mills (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Katie Hartman (Madison, Ind.) connected on a pair of three-pointers to push the Blue and Red lead. The team never looked back as a freshman Callie Wilder (North Vernon, Ind.) jumper propelled Hanover to the 36-20 halftime advantage.

The second half saw much of the same from the Blue and Red as an 8-0 run extended the Panther lead to 44-22 following another Hartman three-pointer. Rose-Hulman attempted a comeback late in the third quarter but fell unsuccessful as another Hartman deep ball and a senior Amanda Butler (Bloomfield, Ind.) free throw secured the 58-33 advantage.

The balance attack continued for Hanover late into the fourth quarter as senior Brooke Todd (Vevay, Ind.) landed a three-pointer that sealed the conference victory. 

Hanover returns to action on Wednesday, January 8 when they welcome Mount St. Joseph to Collier Arena. Tip-off is set for 7 PM.
