MARSHALL, Mich. – In its season opening tournament, the Hanover women's golf team saw sophomore Maddie Cody (Brownsburg, Ind.) win the individual medalist honors at the Olivet (Mich.) Labor Day Classic.

After being in a tie for first with an opening round 79, Cody posted a second round score of 75, setting the lowest 18-hole total in the tournament. Her round of 75 was also 14 strokes under the tournament scoring average Sunday.

Cody's final score of 154, which is her lowest career 36-hole total, earned her the top overall spot by four strokes. The sophomore took advantage of the par fives, as she was the only golfer in the field to post a cumulative total under par at minus-three.

Sophomore Allison Goodwin (Lebanon, Ind.) and junior Sam Pease (Cincinnati, Ohio) tied for seventh overall, each posting a two-round score of 167. Goodwin logged rounds of 83 and 84, while also leading the team in par five scoring at three-over.

Pease and Cody each recorded four birdies to lead the squad. The junior used a Sunday score of 81 to help move her into the top 10 overall.

Competing as an individual, senior Ellen Wuerch (Fortville, Ind.) finished in a tie for 14th with back-to-back rounds of 86. Freshman Dayna Dale (Andrews, Ind.) also competed as an individual, placing 19th overall with a score of 180 (93-87).

Rounding out the team scoring were seniors Scarlett Hartlage (Floyds Knobs, Ind.) and Cassie Hendrickson (Greenwood, Ind.). Hartlage tied for 21st with a score of 186 (92-94), while Hendrickson also posted a top 25 finish with two-day total of 190 (91-99).

Hanover posted a team total of 339 in the opening round Saturday as they were tied for third. After a team score of 334 Sunday, which would have tied for the third lowest team total last year, the Panthers were in third place by themselves at 673.

With a tournament score of 650, St. Mary's (Ind.) took the top team spot. Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent, Rose-Hulman, finished second with a score of 665.

The Panthers will be back in action next weekend, Sept. 9 and 10, when they host the Hanover Invitational at Sunrise Golf Course and Shadowood Golf Course.
