GREENWOOD, Ind. – For the first time in her collegiate career, sophomore Maddie Cody (Brownsburg, Ind.), of the Hanover women's golf team, has been named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
Cody, who picked up her first collegiate medalist honor this past weekend, has been selected by the conference office with the first golfer of the week award during the 2017-18 season. This is the 11th time women's golf has earned a conference player of the week in the past five seasons.
The sophomore posted a two-round score of 154 in the Olivet (Mich.) Labor Day Classic this past weekend, earning the top individual spot by four strokes.
Her opening round score of 79 tied a career low, but Cody then set a new career best in the second round with a 75. The 154-stroke total also set a new individual career low for a 36-hole tournament.
Cody found success on the par fives last weekend, cumulating a three-under total after four par-five holes each day. She also tied for the tournament high in birdies with four.
Hanover finished third overall in the field of six teams at Olivet, posting a two-round score of 673 (339-334).
The Panthers will be back in action this weekend when they host the Hanover Invitational Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 9 and 10. The tournament will be held locally at Sunrise Golf Course Saturday and the Sunday round will take place in Seymour. Ind. at Shadowood Golf Course.
