HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover women's golf team competed at the Illinois Wesleyan Fall Classic and the Heidelberg (Ohio) Fall Invitational this past Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 15 and 16.
Hanover sent its "A" team to the IWU Fall Classic, which featured a bevy of nationally ranked opponents. The Panthers placed eighth in the field of 16 teams, bouncing back from an opening round 331 with a season-best 311 Sunday. The team finished with a score of 642, which was 34 strokes better than its opening weekend performance at Olivet (Mich.).
Leading the charge, especially on Sunday, was junior Allison Goodwin (Lebanon, Ind.). Goodwin fired off a career-best round of 74 Sunday en route to a tournament score of 154, also a career best for a 36-hole event. The junior tied for 13th in the field of 93 golfers.
Senior Sam Pease (Cincinnati, Ohio) was the lone Panther, regardless of location, to record consecutive sub-80 rounds this weekend. Pease fired off matching rounds of 79 for a 158, tying her for 23rd at IWU. The senior's total score was a career low for 36 holes.
Flirting with a career-best performance was sophomore Dayna Dale (Andrews, Ind.), whose 165 (84-81) fell one shy of tying her lowest score at Hanover. Junior Maddie Cody (Brownsburg, Ind.) also shot a 165 (88-77) at IWU, as she and Dale tied for 46th. Cody's round of 77 set a new personal best for the season.
Rounding out the Panther lineup at IWU was sophomore Emma Kate McMurty (Terre Haute, Ind.). The weekend theme continued for McMurty as her total of 177 was the best 36-hole effort in her collegiate career.
Washington (Mo.) took home the team championship for the third consecutive season, firing off a two-day score of 588 (293-295). Grinnell's (Iowa) Nina Kouchi finished with a three-under-par 141 to take individual medalist honors at IWU.
The Panthers had a total of seven golfers make the trip to Tiffin, Ohio to compete in the Heidelberg-hosted tournament, an event that saw HC finish eighth out of 15 teams with a score of 771 (385-386). Highlighting the weekend in Ohio was freshman Kennedy Easton (Borden, Ind.), who fired off a 184 (90-94) in her collegiate debut. Easton tied for 19th in the field of 83 golfers.
Senior Erin Graninger (Evansville, Ind.) tied for 33rd with her career-best tournament score of 192 (95-97). Freshman Hannah Julow (Evansville, Ind.) also finished in the top half of the field at Heidelberg.
