HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover College women's golf team will open its 2019 spring slate against some of the top teams in the country as they compete in the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational this weekend.
SETTING THE SCENE: The Panthers, along with 21 other institutions will be entering this weekend's three-day, 54-hole tournament, hosted by Oglethorpe University in Jekyll Island, Ga., at the Indian Mound Golf Course. Opening round action is slated for Friday, March 15, and the tournament will conclude with the third round on Sunday, March 17.
THE COMPETITION: All but one institution is ranked inside the top 85 on GolfStat's national list, which was last generated on March 12, 2019. Rhodes (Tenn.), New York Univ., Methodist (N.C.), St. Mary's (Ind.) and Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) headline the field, as they are ranked No. 5, 8, 13, 14 and 15 respectively. Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference 2018 champion, Transylvania, also joins the field, giving Hanover's league two institutions in attendance this weekend. The Pioneers are No. 37 in Golfstat's national rankings.

THE COURSE: Indian Mound Golf Course is a Joe Lee design and is the shortest of Jekyll Island Golf Club's three courses. Golfers can take advantage of the course's short par four holes, provided quality approach shots into the green. From the longest tees, Indian Mound plays just a shade under 6,500 yards.
LAST TIME OUT: Hanover's last appearance during the 2018-19 season came at the HCAC Championships back on October 13 and 14. The Panthers placed third at the league tournament for the second consecutive year, posting a two-round total of 697 (357-340). Cody led HC with a tie for 12th. Pease placed T-14 and Easton followed in a tie for 21st.
TOURNAMENT HISTORY: Hanover has become a familiar name on the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational leaderboard and are coming off a 20th place finish last season (1,040). The Panthers have placed 20th each of the past two years and were 16th in a field of 23 teams back in 2016. Last season, Cody paced the Blue and Red with a three-day score of 252 (85-84-83), while Goodwin logged a tournament total of 258 (89-86-83). Both golfers placed inside the top 100.
UP NEXT: The Panthers will return to action Saturday and Sunday, March 30 and 31, at the Mt. St. Joseph Spring Invitational. Action will take place in Harrison, Ohio at Miami Whitewater Forest Golf Club.
