HANOVER, Ind. - The Hanover women's lacrosse team secured its fourth victory in the last five outings with a 20-2 win over Anderson (Ind.) at Alumni Stadium, concluding the Panthers' 2019 regular season.
With the triumph, the Blue and Red improve to 7-8 overall with a 4-2 slate in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Meanwhile, Anderson falls to 2-8 on the year with a 2-4 mark in the HCLC. Effectively, HC secured the third seed in the HCLC Tournament.
Hanover started hot, as junior Kinna Laymon (Fishers, Ind.) opened scoring with 29:15 remaining in the first half. Before 10 minutes had elapsed, the Blue and Red were up by a score of 8-0, with Laymon either scoring or assisting on four of eight Panther makes. The Ravens answered with 18:20 to go in the frame, closing the gap to an 8-1 margin. However, HC rifled off five more goals prior to halftime and took a 13-1 lead.
Coming out of the half, Hanover hit the back of the net on seven consecutive occasions, with three points each coming from freshmen Anne Breeding (Miamisburg, Ohio) and Eme Edman (Niles, Mich.). Anderson registered a late score with 1:44, but the first half run would prove too much for the Ravens.
Junior Laurel Atchison (Florence, Ky.) paced the Panthers with a career-high seven points on a trio of goals and four assists, with five points and all four dimes coming in the first half. Laymon led HC by making four of her six shot attempts, all of which came on goal. Defensively, senior Hannah Mundt (Prospect, Ky.) had a collegiate-best five caused turnovers and led the Blue and Red with seven groundballs.
Hanover will next take the field in the opening round of the HCLC Tournament against Earlham, with time and venue to be determined.
