Panthers Suffer Early Season Setback at Butler

team huddle

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Hanover women's lacrosse team traveled north on Sunday afternoon to square off with Division I foe Butler University. Despite a strong Panther showing the Blue and Red fell in the contest, 22-0.

Leading the charge for Hanover were senior Sarah Todd (Columbus, Ohio) and sophomore Anne Breeding (Miamisburg, Ohio) both recording shots in the contest. In frame, senior Julia Long (Cincinnati, Ohio) garnered six saves through 37 minutes of action while sophomore Delaney Benner (Indianapolis, Ind.) added two saves.

The Panthers (0-1 overall) found themselves trailing early in the contest before Breeding got a good look at the net missing just wide of frame. With just under 10 minutes remaining in the opening half, Butler continued on the gas pedal extending their lead when Benner charted a save in frame that halted the charging Bulldogs.

In the second period the pressure from Butler continued but Hanover was able to hold the Bulldogs scoreless for nearly nine minutes including saves from Long that left the deficit at 17-0. However, the Blue and Red were unable to combat the charge as they fell in the contest despite a game-high eight saves in frame.

Hanover returns to action on Saturday, February 22 as they welcome Bethel to Alumni Stadium. The faceoff is slated for 1:00 PM.
