HANOVER, Ind. – The three-match shutout streak came to an end, but the Hanover women's soccer team still earned its fourth straight win with a 3-1 victory over Augustana (Ill.) Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore Maisyn Garland (Rochester, Ill.) got the scoring started with her second goal in as many matches on the weekend. Garland scored from right in front of the goal at the 35:14 mark in the opening half off assists from sophomore Brandi Brock (Cincinnati, Ohio) and freshman Natalie Fausz (Alexandria, Ky.) for a 1-0 lead.
The score changed at the 64:42 mark in the second half when junior Claire Stockwell (Burlington, Ky.) beat the Augustana keeper on a penalty kick to extend the lead to 2-0. It was Stockwell's first goal of 2017.
The Vikings wasted little time answering. Just over two minutes later Mady Huber scored her first goal of the season off a free kick to cut the lead in half at 2-1, only to see Hanover freshman Sydney Mattingly (Louisville, Ky.) find the back of the net for the first time in her collegiate career for the final 3-1 tally. Junior Cassidy Evanson (Carmel, Ind.) had the assist, her first of the year.
The Panthers out-shot Augustana 13-7 on the day and had the only two corner kicks of the match. Sophomore Emma DeBolt (West Chester, Ohio) improved to 2-1 in goal for Hanover. She had one save in two chances.
Up next for the Panthers is another home contest Wednesday, Sept. 13. Hanover will host Thomas More (Ky.) at 5 p.m. in Hanover, Ind.
