GREENWOOD, Ind. – Hanover women's soccer senior Abby Shroyer (Zionsville, Ind.) has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Panthers to a 1-0 double-overtime win over Capital over the weekend.
Shroyer led a defense that posted its fourth shutout of the season and limited the Crusaders to only 10 total shots, including only six on goal, over 101:05 of action.
Just over one minute into the second overtime period, Shroyer hit the back of the net in the top right corner on a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box to give Hanover the 1-0 win. The score was her first of the season and third of her career.
The weekly honor is the first for the reigning two-time HCAC Defensive Player of the Year, and the first for the Panthers in 2017.
Hanover, 6-2-0 overall, will next play Manchester in the HCAC-opener for both teams Saturday, Sept. 30. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. in North Manchester, Ind.
