HANOVER, Ind. – In a match-up of the two teams that have met in the league championship the last three years, it was Franklin scoring a first-half goal to defeat the Hanover women's soccer team 1-0 Wednesday evening.
The Panthers, who had won the previous nine home contests against the Grizzlies, fall to 7-3-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, while Franklin improves to 6-3-0 overall and 2-0-0 in league play.
The match was tightly contested throughout as neither team was able to gain a significant advantage. Franklin's Jalynn Gorman scored the only goal of the evening in the 37th minute on a ball that just barely crossed the goal line.
Hanover had three shots in the first half and six in the second with three corner kicks overall, but were unable to find the back of the net. Sophomore goalkeeper Emma Debolt (West Chester, Ohio) took the loss for the Panthers. Debolt made five saves in the defeat.
Up next is another HCAC contest, this time against Anderson, Saturday, Oct. 7. Start time is set for 1 p.m. in Hanover, Ind.
