GREENWOOD, Ind. - Hanover freshman women's soccer player Charlotte Verbanic (Columbus, Ind.) has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for matches played October 9 - October 15.
The freshman goalkeeper continues the strong start to her collegiate career, as she has now logged over 350 minutes of action without allowing a goal this season.
In the Panthers' 1-0 win over Transylvania Wednesday, the first-year keeper recorded her third solo shutout in her third career start. She then played the first 74:25 in Hanover's 2-0 win at Bluffton Saturday to finish the week with four saves in four chances as the Blue and Red were the only conference team to post two shutouts on the week.
Verbanic is now 4-0-0 in goal with three solo shutouts, and has been part of four of the team's seven clean sheets this season. She joins senior Abby Shroyer (Zionsville, Ind.) as the second Hanover player to win HCAC Player of the Week honors this season. Shroyer was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week following week four.
