Strong start lifts No. 19 Panthers to 2-0 win over Rose-Hulman

HANOVER, Ind. – The No. 19 Hanover women's soccer team won its 11th straight match Thursday afternoon, defeating Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe, Rose-Hulman, by a count of 2-0.

The Panthers' stellar stretch has them 11-1-0 overall and atop the HCAC standings at 4-0-0. With the loss, the Fightin' Engineers fall to 7-6-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the HCAC.

Freshman Amanda Carmosino (Noblesville, Ind.) notched a pair of saves in the win, picking up her sixth clean sheet of the season. Carmosino also improved her goalie record to 11-1-0 in her freshman campaign.

Picking up the goals for HC were senior Shannon Hawkins (Carmel, Ind.) and junior Kayla Nowlin (Harrison, Ohio). Hawkins found the back of the net from 25 yards out on a set piece in the 23rd minute, while Nowlin gave the Blue and Red an insurance goal on a shot in the box just before halftime. Hanover's 6-1 first half shot advantage led to the 2-0 edge on the scoreboard.

Logging the first half assists were junior Brandi Brock (Cincinnati, Ohio), senior Claire Stockwell (Burlington, Ky.) and freshman Maggie Day (Sellersburg, Ind.).

Neither side could find the back of the net in the second half, and Carmosino stopped the lone RHIT shot on goal in the final 10 minutes of play.

Hanover finished the contest with a 14-6 advantage in shots, including a 7-2 edge on goal. In all, four Panthers recorded multiple shots, with Nowlin posting a team-high three attempts.

Hanover will look to continue its current overall win streak and stay unbeaten in HCAC play when the team welcomes Bluffton for a 1 p.m. start Saturday, Oct. 13.
