HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover College women's soccer team outshot HCAC foe, Bluffton University, 42-0 en route to a dominant 4-0 victory Saturady afternoon.
The win marks the team's 12th in a row and takes the Panthers, currently ranked No. 19 in the United Soccer Coaches national poll, to 12-1-0 overall and a perfect 5-0-0 in conference play. The Beavers, meanwhile, fall to 1-11-1 overall and 0-5-0 in the HCAC.
The Panthers were led by two first half goals that gave them a commanding 2-0 lead heading into the break. In the 16th minute of play, a cross from junior Brandi Brock (Cincinnati, Ohio) connected with teammate Anna Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio) for her team-leading seventh goal of the season. Eleven minutes later, the two connected again, this time with Smith providing the assist on a through ball and Brock scoring the goal on a header.
In the second half, the Red and Blue continued to dominate, stifling the Bluffton offense and creating opportunities of their own. Senior Claire Stockwell (Burlington, Ky.) added a goal on an assist from Ruby Kate Gray (Lexington, Ky.), and in the 75th minute, Brock tallied her second assist of the day on a pass to Autum Boothby (Mount Orab, Ohio) who scored her third goal of the season.
Of the 42 shots by Panther players, 18 were on target. This is the highest total number of shots taken by the Red and Blue this year ahead of a 37-shot performance in an 8-1 victory over Manchester.
Hanover's next contest will be at home on Wednesday, Oct. 17 as they take on Transylvania, who sits at 9-3-2 overall with a 2-1-1 conference record. The match will begin at 3:30 p.m.
