HANOVER, Ind. – The No. 14 Hanover women's soccer team looks to close out its regular season at the top of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference standings as they travel to Mount St. Joseph and host Defiance this week.
The Panthers will travel to face the Lions at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 24, and will wrap up the regular season by hosting the Yellow Jackets at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 27.
ROLL PANTHERS – Hanover upped its win streak to 14 as they beat Transylvania and Anderson this past week. The Blue and Red are now 14-1-0 on the season and are 7-0-0 in conference play. With the two wins, the Hanover women have already clinched a playoff berth in next week's conference tournament, as well as a home semifinal match. The Panthers and top ranked Washington (Mo.) are tied for fourth in the nation for longest current win streak. This win streak is also the longest in program history. The Blue and Red are also ranked in the top 65 nationally for nine different statistical categories, including assists per game (18th, 2.73), goal against average (26th, 0.47) and points per game (32nd, 8.73).
CARMOSINO RECEIVES WEEKLY AWARD: After a pair of shutout wins, freshman goalkeeper Amanda Carmosino (Noblesville, Ind.) was announced as the HCAC Defensive Player of the Week. Carmosino made four saves while appearing in goal in over 170 minutes of action last week. With an individual and team shutout, Carmosino has been apart of all nine team shutouts and has seven clean sheets in her inaugural college campaign. For the season, Carmosino leads the HCAC in goal against average, 0.41, which is also good enough for 23rd nationally.
BROCK SOLID – Junior Brandi Brock (Cincinnati, Ohio) has been rock solid this season, scoring six goals and dishing out six assists, adding to a total of 18 points. Brock has scored or assisted on six of the last 10 goals for the Panthers. The junior midfielder is ranked second in the HCAC for total assists. The junior is coming off a three-point (one goal, one assist) performance against Anderson last Saturday.
AMAZING ANNA: Freshman Anna Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio) has started her college career strong, hitting the back of the net a team-high eight times, while assisting on five goals for 21 total points. Smith's goal and point totals rank fifth in the conference this fall. The freshman has also scored in two of the past three outings.
SCOUTING MSJ: Mount St. Joseph enters Wednesday's contest with a 13-1-3 overall mark, including a 6-0-1 record in conference play. The Lions join the Panthers as one of only two unbeatens in HCAC play this fall and have won four straight, including wins at Bluffton and Defiance last week. Hanover dropped two outings at MSJ last season, but won the previous five meetings, including the 2016 HCAC Tournament semifinals, 2-1.
SCOUTING DEFIANCE: Defiance is 2-13-0 overall and 2-5-0 in the HCAC before traveling to face Earlham Wednesday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets will conclude their season at Hanover this weekend and have dropped 10 straight to the Panthers, including a 6-1 loss in Hanover last season.
