INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Hanover College women's soccer team claimed the top spot in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Preseason Poll announced Tuesday afternoon by the league office.
This year's poll marks the 11th time in the past 12 seasons the Blue and Red have landed among the best in the league's preseason poll.
The 2018 campaign saw the Panthers return to the top of the HCAC as they claimed the regular season crown posting a perfect 9-0 record. Hanover finished the season 17-2 overall and advanced to the HCAC Tournament Championship for the fifth time in the past six seasons.
The Blue and Red landed 12 All-Conference honors, including Head Coach Jim Watts being named the HCAC Coach of the Year and Amanda Carmosino (Noblesville, Ind.) Freshman of the Year.
Carmosino along with teammates Brandi Brock (Cincinnati, Ohio), Abby Howes (Terre Haute, Ind.) and Kelsey Hughes (Noblesville, Ind.) were all tabbed as preseason players to watch.
The 2019 poll saw Hanover claim the top spot with 76 points and four first place votes, while Mount St. Joseph finished runner-up with 75 points and four first place votes. Transylvaina claimed the final first place vote as they tallied 64 points to finish third, while Rose-Hulman landed in the fourth spot with 54 points. Franklin (47) rounded out the top five, followed by Anderson (46), Ealrham (34), Bluffton (26), Defiance (15) and Manchester (13).
