LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Hanover Panthers pounced early in the first half to defeat Transylvania in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday evening, 3-1.
The Panthers (8-5-1 overall, 5-1 HCAC) finished the contest with a game-high 22 shots, 14 of which were on frame.
Hanover went on the attack early as senior Brandi Brock (Cincinnati, Ohio) was able to beat the Pioneer defense in the 10th minute for the go-ahead goal, 1-0.
The Blue and Red continued on the prowl as sophomore Ruby Kate Gray (Lexington, Ky.) fired a shot in the 16th minute that was saved by the Transylvania goalkeeper. Minutes later, freshman Ainsleigh Spalding (Independence, Ind.) attempted a shot that came up empty, but teammate sophomore Anna Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio) had other ideas.
Smith would take a shot just seconds into the 25th minute that hit the cross bar and left the perfect opportunity for the rebound goal, 2-0.
In the second half, senior Abby Howes (Terre Haute, Ind.) looked to find an insurance goal that was saved by the Pioneer keeper in the 61st minute.
A heartbreaking blow came in the 69th minute as Transylvania sneaked in their first goal of the contest to cut the deficit to 2-1.
In frame, sophomore Amanda Carmosino (Noblesville, Ind.) claimed her eighth win of the season making four saves.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, October 26 as they play host to Anderson for Senior Day. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
