CARMEL, Ind. – The Hanover women's soccer team received eight total honors from the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
The Panthers garnered their second consecutive Freshman of the Year award to go along with seven players being named to the HCAC All-Conference team.
Hanover sophomore forward Autumn Boothby (Mount Orab, Ohio), sophomore midfielder Ruby Kate Gray (Lexington, Ky.), and senior back Lizzie Matchett (Liberty Township, Ohio) were all named HCAC first team selections. This is the first selection to an All-Conference team for all three Panthers.
Boothby paced the Blue and Red with 11 goals this season to go along with four assists bringing her season point total to 26. She ranks second in the conference in both goals and points all while boasting a shots on goal percentage of .655. Gray finished the year tied for second on the team in goals with five with an impressive 19 of her 25 total shots ending up on frame.
Matchett, last year's sportsmanship award winner, is making her first appearance on an all-conference team for the Blue and Red. Matchett helped lead a tenacious Panthers defense that only allowed 6 goals in conference play (0.64 per game) including five shutouts.
Freshman midfielder Josie Dattilo (Montgomery, Ohio) earned Freshman of the Year honors as well as being named to the HCAC second team. Dattilo is the second consecutive Freshman of the Year award winner for Hanover (Carmosino) and sixth under Head Coach Jim Watts. Dattilo finished the year with two goals and two assists as she helped the Panthers control the game from the middle of the field.
Joining Dattilo on the second team are sophomore forward Kelsey Hughes (Noblesville, Ind.) and senior midfielder Brandi Brock (Cincinnati, Ohio). Hughes makes the second team for a second consecutive year after finishing this season with five goals and three assists which ties Brock for second on the team in points (13). Hughes' three game winning goals place her third in the HCAC.
Brock is honored by the HCAC for a third straight season as she was also named first team in 2018 and second team in 2017. The senior finishes her decorated Hanover career with 19 goals scored, including four this year, and 16 assists. Her five assists this year lead the Panthers and rank sixth in the conference. Brock scored the lone goal during the Panthers 1-0 victory over Sewanee earlier this year. A model of consistency, after starting two games her freshman year, the senior started each of her final 56 games to end her career.
Rounding out the awards for Hanover is sophomore forward Anna Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio) who grabbed honorable mention honors from the HCAC. Smith backed up an impressive freshman year last year that saw her placed on second team with five goals and two assists this season.
Overall, the Panthers finished the year with an 11-6-2 record while finishing HCAC play with a record of 7-1-1. All seven award winners helped lead Hanover to a runner-up finish in both regular season play and the conference tournament.
