HANOVER, Ind. - The Hanover women's swimming team will continue its premiere year with a four-way meet this Saturday.
The Panthers will square off against Thomas More (Ky.), along with a pair of Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foes: Transylvania and host-school Franklin. Events are scheduled to commence at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 17.
MIGHTY MIODRAG: Freshman Nora Miodrag (Louisville, Ky.) added to her impressive freshman campaign with three individual wins against Anderson last Saturday. Miodrag finished the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:13.16, while also competing in the 200-yard breaststroke and individual medley races. In those contests, Miodrag timed in at 2:38.12 and 2:22.93, respectively.
Miodrag was the recipient of the first HCAC Swimmer of the Week award and is also coming off a pair of individual triumphs in the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard individual medley versus Rose-Hulman.
LORAN LIGHTS UP: Sophomore Liv Loran (Fort Wayne, Ind.) had a solid showing against the Ravens as well, heading the Blue and Red in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle races. Loran finished the 50-yard in 26.17 seconds, backing it up with a 58.00 time in the longer swim.
Loran was also a member of both second-place relay teams, the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle. Hanover gained victory in the medley against Rose-Hulman in their first dual meet, with Loran being a part of the quartet.
RELAYING IN SUCCESS: The relays have been an area of strength for the Panthers this year, as they have notched top-five finishes in each meet thus far. Particular strength has been shown in the 200-yard medley relay, as they've come in the top three in every outing. Their winning squad against Rose-Hulman, comprised of Miodrag and Loran, along with junior Megan Brandt (Guyton, Ga.) and freshman Sydney Schulok (Cincinnati, Ohio) hit the podium with a time of 2:00.32.
In the Anderson bout, sophomore Meagan Miles (Nabb, Ind.) slotted one place behind Schulok, bringing home second-place honors.
SCOUTING FRANKLIN: The Franklin Grizzlies are currently 7-0 in dual meets this year with a runner-up finish out of six teams in the Indiana Division III Championships, which the Blue and Red also participated in. The Grizzlies have finished first in the HCAC Championships since 2013-14 and finished first in the Liberal Arts Championships in Iowa last season.
SCOUTING TRANSYLVANIA: The Transylvania Pioneers are 1-1 in duels this year winning over Asbury earlier in the calendar. Before meeting Hanover and the others in Franklin they will have a meet versus Union (Ky.) at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 16. In the 2017-18 campaign, the Pioneers finished third in the HCAC Championships and placed third out of four conference schools at the Transylvania Invitational.
SCOUTING THOMAS MORE: The Thomas More Saints grabbed their first head-to-head win of the year against Urbana (Ill.) by a score of 79-63 on Nov. 10 and have competed against Asbury as Transylvania has, suffering a loss to the Eagles.
