TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Hanover women's swim team won three events in its head-to-head dual meet at Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Rose-Hulman Saturday afternoon.
Leading the way for HC was sophomore Liv Loran (Fort Wayne, Ind.), who accumulated 21 points for the team over four total events. The sophomore appeared in two solo events, both of which resulted in top two finishes. Loran won the 50 breaststroke with a time of 32.10 seconds.
Placing second in the 50 breast was freshman Hailee Holberton (New Palestine, Ind.), who clocked in with a personal-best time of 35.81 seconds. Holberton went on to win the 100 breast as well, where she also set a new personal-best mark, 1:16.75.
The duo was joined by junior Megan Brandt (Guyton, Ga.) and freshman Sydney Schulok (Cincinnati, Ohio) on the 200-yard medley relay, which placed second overall with a time of 2:01.24. Brandt added two second place finishes, the 50 backstroke and 50 butterfly, with times of 31.10 and 29.94 respectively. Schulok posted a strong performance on the relay, while also logging a second place showing in the 100 back at 1:08.66.
Sophomore Meagan Miles (Nabb, Ind.) added the third win for HC in the 200 individual medley. Miles swam the event in 2:33.25, besting classmate Kaleigh Grayson (Charlestown, Ind.) for the top spot. These two, along with Loran and Holberton, placed second in 200 free relay. Miles also added a second place mark in the 200 free, 2:13.88.
Rose-Hulman would take the meet though, 159-89. The season series is now even between the two sides, as the Panthers took a home meet back in the fall, 107-95.
Hanover will now turn its attention to the HCAC Championships, which will take place Thursday, Feb. 14, through Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Vigo County Aquatic Center.
