HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover women's tennis team was aggressive early on as they cruised to an 8-1 victory over Transylvania (Ky.) Wednesday evening.
The Panthers (4-2, 4-0 HCAC) got off to a fast start by winning all three doubles matches. Sophomore Meghan Farrell (Indianapolis, Ind.) and junior Susie Winternheimer (Indianapolis, Ind.)led throughout, taking the No. 2 doubles contest, 8-2.
Farrell conceded just three games in the top singles spot, earning an additional point for the team with a 6-2, 6-1 decision. Winternheimer added a straight set victory in the No. 3 slot as well.
Both of the other doubles matches were won by HC with a score of 8-4. Senior Alana Feeley (Colchester, Vt.) and sophomore Caroline Millard (Cincinnati, Ohio) competed in the No. 1 doubles spot, while the tandem of sophomore Cami Jones (Richmond, Ind.) and freshman Haley Parker (Leo, Ind.) won in the No. 3 match.
Jones also competed in the No. 2 singles contest, where she earned a 7-5, 6-1 victory. Parker was a part of a three-set thriller in the No. 4 slot, but ultimately fell as the darkness crept in, 7-6 (8-6), 2-6, 0-1 (9-11).
Earning wins in the fifth and sixth singles matches were freshmen Addison Laker (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Mia Katzenberger (Crawfordsville, Ind.). The duo dropped a combined six games over four sets, as both improved to 3-0 in HCAC singles matches this season.
With the win, Hanover earned its 37th consecutive victory in HCAC regular season matches. The loss dropped the Pioneers to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
The Panthers will look to stay unbeaten in conference action when they host Manchester at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 7.
