HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover women's tennis team won its 38th straight HCAC regular season match, defeating Manchester at home Saturday afternoon, 8-1.
The Panthers improve to 5-2 overall and 5-0 in conference play this season. Hanover has won both of its last two matches by a count of 8-1. With the loss, Manchester drops to 3-4 overall and 3-2 in HCAC action.
For the third time in four matches, the Blue and Red swept doubles play to capture an early 3-0 edge. Highlighting doubles play for HC was the top tandem of senior Alana Feeley (Colchester, Vt.) and sophomore Caroline Millard (Cincinnati, Ohio), who registered an 8-0 victory.
Three Panthers earned victories in singles and doubles play, including sophomore Cami Jones (Richmond, Ind.) and freshman Haley Parker (Leo, Ind.). The duo teamed up in doubles action, starting the match with an 8-3 decision in the third slot.
Parker went on to earn a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the No. 4 singles match, while Jones outlasted her MU competitor in three sets, 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (10-5).
The third Panther two pick up two points for the team was junior Susie Winternheimer (Indianapolis, Ind.). Winternheimer won the third singles match, 6-2, 7-5, after pairing with sophomore Meghan Farrell (Indianapolis, Ind.) in an 8-4 win in the No. 2 doubles slot.
Freshmen Addison Laker (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Mia Katzenberger (Crawfordsville, Ind.) both improved to 4-0 in conference singles action Saturday. Laker cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win, while Katzenberger earned a 6-2, 6-1 decision.
The Panthers, who have already secured a spot in the HCAC Tournament, will be back in action at 3 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 11, as they travel to face Franklin.
