HANOVER, Ind. -- The Hanover women's tennis team will look to close out its fifth straight undefeated conference campaign this week as they travel to face Franklin at 5 p.m. Wednesday, October 11, before hosting their Homecoming match against Defiance at 11 a.m. this Saturday, October 14.
This past week, the Panthers recorded two conference victories against Manchester (Ind.) and Transylvania (Ky.), both by a score of 8-1.
Junior Susie Winternheimer (Indianapolis, Ind.) garnered Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors for her performances, where she posted a combined singles-doubles record of 4-0.
For the season, Winternheimer has a 5-2 record in singles action and a 5-2 mark in doubles matches with sophomore Meghan Farrell (Indianapolis, Ind.). Winternheimer is 5-0 in HCAC singles play, while her and Farrell are also unbeaten in conference doubles action.
Other standout performers included sophomore Cami Jones (Richmond, Ind.) who posted a 4-0 mark in singles and doubles competition and freshman Haley Parker (Leo, Ind.) who went 3-1 over the two matches. For the season, both Jones and Parker are 5-2 in singles action. Their doubles team posts a team-best 6-1 overall record.
The Panthers' away opponent, Franklin College, boasts a 10-1 overall record this season and is also 5-0 in HCAC play. In their previous contest, the Grizzlies came away with a 9-0 victory over Oakland City (Ind.) that included sweeps in six of nine matches. Hanover holds a five-game winning streak on Franklin dating back to the 2014-15 season, including their 9-0 victory last season.
Hanover's homecoming opponent, Defiance, sits at 2-11 overall and 1-5 in HCAC action this season. In their previous match, Defiance lost to conference rival Transylvania, 7-2. The Panthers have recorded at least 10 consecutive victories over Defiance dating back to 2007-08. In their match last season, Hanover defeated Defiance 9-0.
