ORLANDO, Fla. – The Hanover women's team won two of three doubles and four of six singles matches en route to a 6-3 victory over Saint Mary's (Minn.) Tuesday evening.
The Panthers (14-4), after dropping their opener during the Winter Break Trip, rallied to win the final three outings by a combined score of 23-4. Tuesday's win also improves HC to 5-2 this spring season.
Improving their doubles winning streak to 13 straight matches were junior Susie Winternheimer (Indianapolis, Ind.) and sophomore Meghan Farrell (Indianapolis, Ind.). The tandem won the No. 2 match Tuesday, 9-7, improving to 16-2 on the season. Winternheimer won the first set of her singles match as well, but ultimately fell in three, 6-1, 3-6, 5-10.
Earning Hanover's second doubles point was sophomore Cami Jones (Richmond, Ind.) and freshman Haley Parker (Leo, Ind.), as they won at No. 3, 8-5. Jones then cruised to a 6-3, 6-0 decision in the No. 2 singles spot, while Parker won her fourth straight solo match at No. 4, 6-3, 6-4.
Freshman Addison Laker (Indianapolis, Ind.) returned to action after a day off Monday, winning 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 5 slot. Adding HC's fourth singles point at No. 6 was junior Ruth Gaston (Indianapolis, Ind.). Gaston picked up a 6-3, 6-1 decision for her second straight singles victory, which also improves her to 3-1 on the season.
Hanover has now won six of its nine matches of the past two years during the Winter Break Trip. Throughout the stretch, HC has outscored its opponents, in team points, 50-31.
Up next, the Panthers will travel to face Centre (Ky.) at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 10.
