HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover women's tennis team led 2-1 after doubles play Saturday, Sept. 22, before its match against Ind.-Southeast was postponed due to weather.
The Panthers and Grenadiers had moved up their start time to 10 a.m. in anticipation of afternoon rain, but the system came through earlier than expected, resulting in the postponement. The two sides will determine a date early next week to continue the match, which will resume with singles play.
Hanover, who is 3-0 this fall, received its first team point Saturday with an 8-3 by junior Cami Jones (Richmond, Ind.) and sophomore Haley Parker (Leo, Ind.). The duo took the final six games in the No. 2 slot.
Giving HC the advantage after doubles play were senior Susie Winternheimer (Indianapolis, Ind.) and junior Meghan Farrell (Indianapolis, Ind.), who took the top spot, 9-8. Winternheimer and Farrell controlled most of the match but a late rally from IUS had the contest tied at eight-all. The Panthers though, responded with a 7-4 decision in the tiebreaker.
Hanover is currently slated to be in action again next Wednesday, Sept. 26, at Transylvania. The conference road contest is slated for a 4 p.m. start.
