Women's tennis takes battle of unbeaten teams with 7-1 win over Franklin

HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover women's tennis team won all five singles matches that finished Wednesday evening, taking the battle of previous unbeaten Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference teams over Franklin, 7-1.

The Panthers improve to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the HCAC with the win. Hanover now has a 44-match HCAC regular season winning streak and is the only remaining unbeaten in league play this fall. After the loss, the Grizzlies are 5-1 overall and 4-1 in conference action.

All five singles victories for Hanover came in straight sets, while junior Meghan Farrell (Indianapolis, Ind.) had split her opening two sets at No. 2, before the match was called due to light. Highlighting singles play was sophomore Mia Katzenberger (Crawfordsville, Ind.), who improved to 13-0 in her singles career after taking the No. 6 match, 6-1, 6-0.

Panther players to earn two team points by winning at singles and doubles were senior Ruth Gaston (Indianapolis, Ind.), junior Cami Jones (Richmond, Ind.) and sophomore Haley Parker (Leo, Ind.). Gaston teamed with junior Lizzy Katzenberger (Crawfordsville, Ind.) at No. 3 doubles, winning 8-2, followed by a 6-3, 6-1 decision at No. 4 singles. Jones and Parker paired at No. 2 doubles, earning an 8-5 victory. The junior then went on to take the top singles spot by a count of 6-2, 6-2, while Parker earned a 7-5, 6-3 triumph at No. 5.

Adding HC's seventh team point was senior Susie Winternheimer (Indianapolis, Ind.). Winternheimer won the No. 3 singles match by a score of 6-2, 7-5.

The Panthers will look to stay unbeaten this fall when they travel to face Rose-Hulman at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 6.
