HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover women's tennis team garnered its seventh straight win to open up the season with a 6-3 victory at Rose-Hulman.
The Panthers (7-0, 5-0 HCAC) went 2-1 in doubles action while going 4-2 on the singles side. The doubles squad of junior Cami Jones (Richmond, Ind.) and sophomore Haley Parker (Leo, Ind.) came away with an 8-1 victory in the second slot. Individually, both garnered a second win on the day; in the No. 1 slot, Jones triumphed in a 6-3, 6-2 match, while Parker won 6-1, 6-3 as the No. 5 competitor.
Another doubles pair, composed of senior Ruth Gaston (Indianapolis, Ind.) and junior Lizzy Katzenberger (Indianapolis, Ind.) came away with an 8-0 triumph, with each player posting single wins as well. In the No. 4 singles match, Gaston went 6-3, 6-1 for the decision, while Katzenberger came out with an 8-3, exhibition victory. Meanwhile, sophomore Mia Katzenberger (Indianapolis, Ind.) cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 sweep as the No. 6 player, improiving to 14-0 in her collegiate singles career.
For the year, the Blue and Red are 36-5 in singles competition, while accumulating a 20-4 mark in doubles matches. Overall, Hanover has won 53 of 62 matchups this season, which equate to a .855 win percentage.
The Panthers next opponent, the Lions of Mount St. Joseph, come into the contest 1-7 overall. Hanover has won six straight against Mount, including a 9-0 win last fall. The Blue and Red are set to host the match at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 10.
