Women's Tennis Serves Past Defiance and Midway

HANOVER, Ind. – The women's tennis team swept the competition on Saturday afternoon defeating Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Defiance, 7-0 before defeating Midway, 7-2.

In the team's opener with Defiance, the Blue and Red swept doubles action as senior Meghan Farrell (Indianapolis, Ind.) and senior Cami Jones (Richmond, Ind.) teamed up to win one doubles. At two doubles, senior Lizzy Katzenberger (Crawsfordsville, Ind.) and sophomore Maddie Shannon(Anderson, Ind.) defeated the competition 8-1 before the duo of junior Haley Parker (Leo, Ind.) and junior Mia Katzenberger (Crawsfordsville, Ind.) posted a perfect 8-0 victory.

The team carried the momentum into singles action as Jones took one singles 6-3, 6-0. Farrell got the start at two singles winning 6-0, 6-1, while teammate Mia Katzenberger claimed three singles 6-0, 6-0.

In the final two matches, freshman Claire Goff (Terre haute, Ind.) defeated the Yellow Jackets at four singles 6-1, 6-2 while sophomore Sidney Goedeker (Charlestown, Ind.) rounded out the scoring for HC winning five singles 6-1,6-0.

The Panthers carried the momentum into the night cap as they defeated Midway 7-2.

In doubles action, Jones and Farrell again teamed up for the 8-5 win, while Parker and Katzenbergere also captured the 8-0 victory at three doubles.

Entering singles leading Midway 2-1, Jones picked up her fourth win of the afternoon winning one singles 6-0, 6-0. Farrell also continued her strong day winning her singles match 6-1,6-1, while teammate Mia Katzenberger fought back for the three-set victory. The Panthers swept the final two singles matches as both Parker and Shannon recorded wins.

Hanover returns to the courts on Wednesday, October 2 as they travel to Franklin. First serve is set for 4 PM.
