Panthers Look to Claim Sixth Title in Seven Years at the HCAC Tournament

HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover College Panthers will look for their sixth conference tournament title in seven years as they enter the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Championship as the two seed.

TOURNAMENT INFO: Six teams will bid for the conference tournament title and the automatic bid into the HCAA Division III National Tournament, with opening round action getting underway at 6 p.m., Friday, Oct. 18. The Panthers will open tournament play in the semifinal round, which will take place at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 19. The Championship match will then follow on Sunday, Oct. 20. The tournament will be held in Nicholasville, Ky. at the Top Seed Tennis Club featuring both indoor and outdoor courts.

SENIORS SHINING: Seniors Cami Jones (Richmond, Ind.), Meghan Farrell (Indianapolis, Ind.), Lizzy Katzenberger (Crawfordsville, Ind.) and Mia Katzenberger (Crawfordsville, Ind.) will look to cap off stellar careers with a tournament win this weekend. Jones has posted a season 4-3 singles record competing at No. 1 singles for the Blue and Red. In doubles action the senior has been featured in the top two spots teaming up with teammates Mia Katzenberger and Farrell for a 6-1 overall record, 5-1 HCAC mark.

Farrell dominated No. 2 singles this season, posting a perfect 6-0 overall record, with 1-0 record at No. 1 singles. The senior appeared in all of Hanover's No. 1 doubles matches, teaming up with Lizzy Katzenberger, Mia Katzenberger, and Jones for a 6-2 overall record.

Mia Katzenberger led the Panthers this season as she finished with an unblemished record going 8-0 overall in singles action, with a perfect 8-0 doubles record. Mia appeared to be a competitor across the board for Hanover as she went 5-0 overall at No. 4 singles, while also climbing the ranks to a perfect 2-0 record at No. 2 singles. In doubles action she teamed up with junior Haley Parker (Leo, Ind.) for the 6-0 record, while also collecting wins with teammates Jones and Farrell. Lizzy finished the regular season 3-4 overall in singles action, with a 5-3 doubles record. The duo of Lizzy and sophomore Maddie Shannon (Anderson, Ind.) dominated No. 2 doubles going 4-2 overall, with a win at No. 1 doubles.

PARKER CONTROLING THE COURT: The No. 5 singles spot has been held down by Parker posting a perfect 4-0 record. She finished the season 5-0 overall with a win at No. 3 singles. In doubles action, her perfect record continued as she tallied a 6-0 record with teammate Mia Katzenberger.

Shannon continues to find success on the court as she finished the season 7-1 overall in singles action with a majority of her wins coming at No. 6 singles.

HANOVER BY THE NUMBERS: The Panthers boast an impressive 8-1 record to start the 2019-20 campaign. The Blue and Red also posted a 7-1 Conference mark, claiming a runner-up finish.

In singles play, HC is 44-10 (.815) which includes a 30-6 (.833) mark in HCAC action. The Panthers have found similar success in in doubles competition going 21-6 (.778) overall, 15-3 (.833) in Conference matches.

SCOUTING THE FIELD: The Panthers one loss came at the hands of No. 1 seed Anderson (13-1). The Ravens posted a perfect 7-0 mark in league action. Transylvania (6-3) enters the weekend as the No. 3 seed with a 6-2 conference mark, followed by the No. 4 seed Rose-Hulman (7-4). The Fightin' Engineers finished the 2019-20 HCAC campaign at 5-2. Rounding out the field are No. 5 seed Franklin (5-7) with a 4-4 HCAC record and No. 6 seed Mount St. Joseph (5-7) at 3-5 HCAC.
