Women’s track & field set for first of two weekends at DePauw

HANOVER, Ind. - The Hanover women's track & field team will look to build on their impressive start to the season as they travel to Greencastle, Ind. to compete in the DePauw Invitational, with events set to commence at noon, Saturday, April 7.

BIGELOW'S BIG WEEK: After jumping her way to third all-time at HC in the high jump, freshman Heaven Bigelow (Lexington, Ky.) was awarded the HCAC Field Athlete of the Week award. Bigelow jumped 1.59m last Saturday at the Hanover Invitational, which ranks second in the conference this season and seventh in the Great Lakes region. During indoor season, Bigelow also set the high jump school record at 1.58m.

TRIMPE FLYING HIGH: For the second straight meet, junior Erin Trimpe (New Palestine, Ind.) earned the Panthers a victory in the pole vault, as she vaulted 3.35m for the win last Saturday. Her season-best of 3.66m, at the time, was the best vault in NCAA Division III. Currently she ranks fifth nationally in the event.  

HUNTER HURDLES WAY TO WIN: Sophomore Kenna Hunter (Mooresville, Ind.) had a strong showing last Saturday at the Hanover Invitational, most notably a win in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:06.55. Hunter also ran the 100m hurdles, in which her time of 17.32 seconds qualified for fifth. In high jump, Hunter set a personal-best jump of 1.54m, which now ranks fourth in program history.

STEEPLECHASE SUCCESS: Sophomore Ariel Barlow (Francesville, Ind.) and junior Amanda Stump (Garrett, Ind.) each had a fine showing in the 3000m steeplechase, with both of their times ranking top five for the day. Barlow's second-place finish at 12:01.13 put her fourth in school history, while Stump's time of 12:39.91 ranked fifth on the day.

ADDITIONAL NOTES: The 4x100 team of senior Casey Pennell (Indianapolis, Ind.), junior Teal Burnett (Marshall, Ind.), sophomore Simone Henderson (Liberty Township, Ohio) and Hunter won the event with a time of 50.49, which ranks fourth in the Panther record books. Sophomore Eve Galbreath (Vevay, Ind.) will compete in the Bellarmine (Ky.) Invitational Friday afternoon in the throwing events. Galbreath is coming off top top four finishes at the HC Invite in the shot put and the hammer and javelins throws.

UP NEXT: Hanover will return to DaPauw again next weekend to compete in the Indiana Division III Champsionships. Competition is set to begin at noon, Saturday, April 14.
