INDIANAPOLIS – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced its athlete of the week awards Tuesday afternoon, with junior Ariel Barlow (Francesville, Ind.) and sophomore Erin Browning (Greensburg, Ind.) of the Hanover women's track & field team sweeping the honors.
Barlow is receiving her first career weekly honor from the HCAC, as she was named the track athlete of the week. Browning, a two-time indoor award winner this past winter, is tabbed field athlete of the week for the first time in her outdoor career.
In her 2019 outdoor debut, Barlow won the 3000m steeplechase at the Transylvania Invitational. The junior led throughout the race, posting a time of 12:03.72, 14 seconds faster than the next athlete. Barlow now has the 19th best 3000m steeplechase time in NCAA Division III this spring.
Browning's stellar start to the outdoor campaign continued with a victory in the hammer throw and a fifth-place showing in the shot put. The sophomore set a stadium record and reset her own school record in the hammer throw with a distance of 49.32m, which is also a top five mark in Division III. Her shot put mark of 11.75m ranks 35th nationally and moves her into third in school history.
Hanover won the 18-team Transylvania Invitational, giving the program two victories during the current calendar year. The Panthers also won the DePauw Invitational during the indoor campaign.
After two weeks on the road, Hanover is now set to host its home invitational on Saturday, March 30. Senior Day festivities will begin at 10:30 a.m., with the meet scheduled to start at 11 a.m. with select field events and the 10,000m run.
