SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Hanover women's track and field team capped off an eventful weekend with a trip to Wittenberg for the NCAC/OAC/HCAC Challenge.
Senior Kenna Hunter (Mooresville, Ind.) opened the weekend in Indianapolis, Ind. with the Tom Hathaway Classic where she took second in the pentathlon with 3,011 points. In a field littered with Division I athletes the senior posted a strong day. Her highest mark came in the high jump with 724 points where she registered a height of 1.59 meters.
In the 800-meter run she claimed 701 points with a time of 2:29.33, while tallying 672 points in the 60-meter hurdles. The afternoon also saw her post strong finishes in the shot put and long jump.
Sophomore Arig Tong (Columbus, Ind.) also made the trek north to Indianapolis for the Gladstein Invite where she competed in the 5,000-meter run. The sophomore finished seventh in the nine-runner field in a time of 18:52.44.
In Ohio, the Panthers posted a strong day in the seven team field taking fourth overall with 66 points.
In the 5,000-meter run, sophomore Brianna Medcalf (Central, Ind.) notched a second-place finish with a time of 19:20.13, ranking her fourth all-time among the Hanover women's track and field team. The success carried over into the 4x200-meter relay where the team of freshman Zaleeya Martin (Shelbyville, Ind.), sophomore Makenzie Carroll (Richmond, Ky.), sophomore Riley Austin (Richmond, Ind.), and freshman Alijah Craig (Milan, Ind.) took second overall crossing the finish line in a time of 1:52.39.
In the field events, junior Erin Browning (Greensburg, Ind.) captured a second-place mark in the weight throw with a toss of 14.58 meters.
The team of Hunter, Craig, sophomore Sawyer Osmun (Fishers, Ind.) and Carroll found success in the 4x400-meter relay finishing the event in a time of 4:16.82, good enough for third. The time landed them seventh all-time in Panther history.
Junior Emily Jones (Pendleton, Ind.) also tallied a third-place finish in the pole vault with a season-best height of 2.91 meters.
Senior Ariel Barlow (Francesville, Ind.) claimed a top five finish in the 3,000-meter race crossing the finish line with a season-best time of 11:26.51.
Martin carried her momentum into the 60-meter dash taking fifth in a time of 8.20 her qualifying time of 8.17 moved her into fifth all-time, while finishing eighth in the 200-meter dash with a mark of 28.14. She also competed as part of the long jump with a leap of 4.84 meters that saw her rank sixth all-time.
Sophomore Alexis Gerke (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished sixth overall in the 60-meter hurdles, while teammate junior Maddie McHugh (Coatesville, Ind.) took seventh in the one mile run with a time of 5:59.86.
In the 800-meter run, sophomore Lexi Gurr (Charlestown, Ind.) crossed the finish line in sixth place with a time of 2:48.73.
The Panthers would post a strong finish in the high jump where sophomore Riley Austin (Richmond, Ind.) took sixth with a leap of 1.45 meters.
The Blue and Red return to action on Saturday, February 1 as they compete in the Joe Banks Invitational hosted by Ohio Northern University.
