Martin Ties School Record to Lead Women's Track & Field

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Hanover women's track and field team competed as part of the Tiger Small College Invitational hosted by DePauw University on Friday evening. The Panthers finished third overall in the 11 team field with 85 points.

Freshman Zaleeya Martin (Shelbyville, Ind.) led the charge as she tied the school record in the 60-meter dash with a prelim time of 8.03 seconds before going on to win the event with a time of 8.04 seconds. She also found success in the 200-meter dash, winning the event in a time of 27.54.

Also garnering a first place finish in the invitational was junior Emily Jones (Pendleton, Ind.) in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.05 meters.

Freshman Alijah Craig (Milan, Ind.) ran a personal record in the 400-meter dash finishing second overall with a time of 1:04.90. She also earned a spot in the 60-meter hurdles finals, placing sixth overall in the event with a time of 10.35 while taking sixth place in the 200-meter dash crossing the finish line in 28.44.

In the weight throw, sophomore Mariah Grider (North Vernon, Ind.) finished fourth with a distance of 14.36 meters and took fifth in the shot put with a personal best toss of 10.69 meters.

Sophomore Alexis Gerke (Cincinnati, Ohio) placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.35, while senior Ariel Barlow (Francesville, Ind.) took fifth in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 11:15.70. Following Barlow across the finish line in the 3,000-meter run was senior Caitlyn Naghdi (Carmel, Ind.) in sixth place with a time of 11:16.62.

Sophomore Sawyer Osmun (Fishers, Ind.) won her heat in the one mile race to finish sixth overall in the event in a time of 5:36.07, while sophomore Makenzie Carroll (Richmond, Ky.) and sophomore Jessica Beckman (Glenwood, Ind.) took seventh in their respective events. Carroll finished seventh in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.46, while Beckman placed seventh in the shot put with a distance of 10.12 meters.

The 4x400-meter relay rounded out the meet for the Panthers finishing third overall. The race consisted of Craig, junior Maddie McHugh (Coatesville, Ind.), Osmun and Carroll crossing the finish line in a time of 4:28.62.

The Blue and Red return to action on Saturday, February 15 with the DePauw Indoor Invitational. The event is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
