HANOVER, Ind. – The women's track and field team hit the road for one final tune-up before the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships. The Panthers head to Greencastle, Ind. for the DePauw Indoor Invitational Saturday, February 15.
DEPAUW INDOOR INVITE: The Invitational is scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM with the women's distance medley relay as well as a slew of field events.
MARTIN GARNERS HCAC ACCOLADES: Freshman Zaleeya Martin (Shelbyville, Ind.) earned her first HCAC Track Athlete of the Week honor after tying the school records in the 60-meter dash last weekend. The freshman phenom tied the record with a prelim time of 8.03 seconds before going on to win the event with a time of 8.04 seconds.
Her 60-meter dash time landed her as the favorite to win the HCAC and placed her among the top 100 in Division III.
WHEN AT DEPAUW: The Blue and Red make their second consecutive trip to DePauw after competing as part of the Tiger Small College Invite. The Panthers found great success finishing third overall in the 11-team field with 85 points. Leading the charge was junior Emily Jones (Pendleton, Ind.) in the pole vault taking first with a height of 3.05 meters and Martin in the 60-meter dash as well as the 200-meter dash.
Freshman Alijah Craig (Milan, Ind.) garnered a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04.90. The time was a personal best for the freshman. The 4x400-meter relay team of Craig, junior Maddie McHugh (Coatesville, Ind.), sophomore Sawyer Osmun (Fishers, Ind.) and sophomore Makenzie Carroll (Richmond, Ky.) rounded out the meet with a third-place mark in a time of 4:28.62.
UP NEXT: Hanover returns to the track on Saturday, February 22 as they travel to Terre haute, Ind. for the HCAC Indoor Championships.
