NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. –Senior Kristin Goben (Finchville, Ky.) tied a season high with 14 kills as the Hanover volleyball team defeated Manchester, on the road, Saturday, 3-1.
Goben was one of two Panthers to log double digit kills with junior Margo Main (Ann Arbor, Ind.) adding 10. Main also posted a team best hitting percentage of .588.
The Panthers (15-5, 3-0 HCAC) enjoyed a .327 overall hitting percentage, marking the second time in three contests the team hit at least .300.
Hitting .333 in the opening frame, Hanover led throughout, winning the set, 25-17. After dropping the second game, 25-21, the Panthers rallied for 25-8 and 25-14 third and fourth set decisions respectively. The Blue and Red posted .375 and .565 hitting percentages over the final two frames.
Hanover added a strong defensive effort at the net as well, logging 13.0 team blocks, while also holding the Spartans (8-7, 0-3 HCAC) to a negative overall hitting percentage.
Goben and senior Courtney Crawford (Louisville, Ky.) each logged five total blocks to lead the team. Overall, seven different Panthers logged multiple rejections in the contest.
Senior Monique Huynh (Indianapolis, Ind.) led the back-line defense, recording a team high 16 digs. Junior Abby Crump (Indianapolis, Ind.) added seven digs, while also registering 19 assists and two kills offensively. Leading the team in helpers was junior Haley Alexander (Martinsville, Ind.) with 20.
With the win, Hanover has now won 21 straight HCAC regular season matches, with its last loss coming during the 2014 season. The Blue and Red have also won each of their last five contests in 2017.
The Panthers will look to continue their winning ways when they host Mount St. Joseph (Ohio) for a HCAC contest at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 11.
