HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover volleyball team honored its two seniors Saturday afternoon, Abby Crump (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Claire Dennis (Bloomington, Ind.), by earning a 3-0 win over Anderson, 25-14, 25-11, 25-16.
The Panther seniors were key in engineering the victory, as Dennis led the squad with 11 kills, seven blocks and a .550 hitting percentage. Crump added a team-best 18 assists, while pitching in four digs and three service aces as well.
As a team, Hanover (14-13, 4-4 HCAC) hit a season-high .329, while also recording 13 service aces. Leading the team with six aces was freshman Emma Rolf (Lebanon, Ind.).
Pitching in all over the court was freshman Kelsey Ketcham (Mishawaka, Ind.), who totaled six kills, eight assists, seven digs and four blocks. Ketcham also posted a hitting percentage of .462.
Leading the match off as the server, Crump paced the Panthers to a 6-0 run before an Anderson (11-16, 3-6 HCAC) timeout. While Crump was serving late in the set, HC added another 4-0 run en route to a 25-14 opening-set victory.
The second game saw Hanover run out to an early 7-5 advantage. With the set still close, the Blue and Red capped the frame on a 20-6 run, winning 25-11. During the closing spurt HC posted six service aces.
The final frame was tied at eight-all before a quick spurt put Hanover in front 11-8. The Panthers never relinquished the lead from that point on and two kills from junior Carlie Burson (New Salisbury, Ind.) capped the set at 25-16.
With the win, Hanover has secured a spot in the six-team Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament next week and will play in the opening round next Wednesday, Oct. 31. The location and opponent are still to be determined as regular season play is set to wrap up Sunday, Oct. 28, with Hanover hosting Manchester for a 1 p.m. match.
