HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover volleyball team will open the 2019 campaign this weekend as they head south to Maryville, Tennessee for the Maryville College Invitational.
WEEKEND SCHEDULE: The Panthers open the season against Washington and Lee at 12 p.m., Friday, Aug. 30 followed by Invitational host Maryville at 2:15 p.m. Hanover will then square off with Huntingdon at 12:15 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 31.
2018 RECAP: Under the direction of head coach Peter Preocanin, the Panthers finished the 2018 campaign 15-14 overall and advanced to the HCAC Tournament. The Blue and Red landed a pair of All-Conference selections, including HCAC Freshman of the Year pick, Kelsey Ketcham (Mishawaka, Ind.). Ketcham was placed on the HCAC Preseason Player to Watch list alongside teammates Ally Williams (Fountaintown, Ind.), Carlie Burson (New Salisbury, Ind.), and Emma Rolf (Lebanon, Ind.).
BLOCK PARTY: The Panthers continued to dominate the net last season ranking among the best in the Conference. The Blue and Red finished the 2018 season ranked number one among the HCAC in total blocks (243) and blocks per set (2.25). The teams 2.25 blocks per set ranked them 12th nationally.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS: Hanover will face off with Washington and Lee in it's opening contest of the 2019 campaign. The Generals posted a strong 2018 season finishing 21-13 overall, 11-1 in Conference action winning the ODAC Championship before advancing to the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Panthers closeout the tournament with a pair of USA South Western Division match-ups in Maryville and Huntingdon. Huntingdon enters the weekend ranked second among the league followed by Maryville who was picked third overall in the USA South Athletic Conference preseason poll.
