MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Panthers dominated Huntingdon in straight sets (25-23, 25-16, 25-19) to conclude the weekend 2-1 overall at the Maryville Invitational.
Hanover was led on the day by sophomore Emma Rolf (Lebanon, Ind.) with double-digit kills (11) and digs (10).
The two teams battled tough in set one exchanging points for several minutes before a seven point rally by Huntingdon gave them the 7-2 advantage. However, the Blue and Red remained poise and slowly chipped at the lead as back-to-back kills by senior Carlie Burson (Corydon, Ind.) and junior Emily Diehr (Greenfield, Ind.) cut the deficit to 14-12.
The Panther tied the contest moments later as a Huntingdon miscue put the teams in a dead lock. Hanover deemed clutch late as they rattled off three straight points, capped off by another Diehr kill. Rolf went on to seal the set one victory after connecting with sophomore Bailey Eveland (Plymouth, Ind.), 25-23.
The back and forth continued for much of set two before a Panther four point surge, sparked by Diehr, gave Hanover the 10-6 advantage. A series of miscues continued to doom Huntingdon as the Blue and Red capitalized pushing the advantage to 16-12.
