WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Hanover College Panthers dominated Wilmington on Friday evening, defeating the Quakers in straight sets (25-12, 25-16, 25-20).
The Panther (10-5 overall) attack posted a stellar performance hitting a game-high .233 with 42 kills. Freshman Adrianne Vance (Indianapolis, Ind.) made her presence at the net known with a team-high 11 kills. Sophomore Kelsey Ketcham (Mishawaka, Ind.) did not disappoint as she dished out 28 assists and registered 12 digs.
Hanover jumped ahead early in set one behind the service of junior Brynn Durecki (Winona Lake, Ind.) who registered an ace to give HC the 8-4 advantage. Ketcham would deem clutch as she sparked a Panther five-point rally that pushed the lead to 19-9. Hanover never looked back as a Wilmington miscue sealed the set one victory, 25-12.
The Blue and Red fell behind early in set two before kills by Vance and Ketcham capped off a HC rally giving the Panthers the 10-5 advantage. The team continued on the attack as a kill by freshman Josie McClara (Jamestown, Ind.) halted a Quaker run and extended the Hanover lead, 21-12. Vance delivered the final dagger as she connected with Ketcham for the set winning kill, 25-16.
In the final set, Wilmington surged ahead early using a series of runs to claim the 12-8 advantage. However, the Panthers strung together a run of their own led by Vance with back-to-back kills tying the set at 17-17. The two teams battled for several serves before a sophomore Maddie Edwards (Jasper, Ind.) kill put HC on top for good and secured the straight set victory, 25-20.
The Panthers return to action Tuesday, October 1 as they host St. Mary-Woods at 7:00 PM.
