HANOVER, IND. – Hanover defeated HCAC opponent Anderson 3-1 on Senior Day to conclude the regular season.
The Panthers (18-10 overall, 6-2 HCAC) honored their two Seniors Ally Williams (Fountaintown, Ind.) and Carlie Burson (Corydon, Ind.) before the game and thanked them for their four years of leaderships and hard work.
Williams has had an impressive Hanover career accumulating 10 kills, 205 assists, 1468 digs, and 74 service aces.
Burson's career has been impressive as well. While being plagued with injuries she has accumulated 262 kills, 113 digs, and 81 blocks the vast majority of which occurred this season.
During the game, the two Seniors did not disappoint as Williams led the team in digs with 20 and Burson tied for the team lead in blocks with three.
The first set saw the Panthers jump out to an early lead with Burson setting the tone for the Blue and Red with four kills and two blocks in the opening set. A block assist by Burson and Josie McClara (Jamestown, Ind.) to begin the game helped the Panthers build momentum and not look back ultimately winning the first set 25-17 behind a total of 20 kills. With those 20 kills, Kelsey Ketcham (Mishawaka, Ind.) provided 18 assists. The 18 assists are a career high in a single set for Ketcham.
After dropping the second set to Anderson 25-22, Hanover dominated set three. With the set tied at 6-6, the Panthers won 10 of the next 11 points to take a commanding 16-7 lead. Two of those points can be credited directly to Williams, who had back-to-back service aces to swing the momentum back to Hanover.
Leaders for the Panthers tonight were Vance who finished the game with 14 kills, Ketcham finished with 40 assists, Williams led the way with 20 digs, and Burson, McClara, and Maura Dankoski (Fishers, Ind.) added 3 blocks.
Hanover will be in action next when the Panthers compete in the HCAC Championship November 6-10.
