Tong Paces Women's Cross Country in First Place Finish

HANOVER, Ind. - The Panthers claimed first place as part of its season and home opening race Saturday morning on the Hanover Cross Country Course.

The Panthers tallied 22 points with five top ten finishers, including a first place mark by sophomore Arig Tong (Columbus, Ind.).

Tong paced the way for the Panthers as she led the field of 49 runners crossing the finish line with a time of 19:52.5. Freshman Leah Anders (Rising Sun, Ind.) finished third overall in the 6k race with a time of 20:21.8, followed by teammate sophomore Brianna Medcalf (Central, Ind.) in fourth place with a time of 20:46.7.

Senior Ariel Barlow (Francesville, Ind.) crossed the finish line with a time of 21:30.2 finishing sixth overall, while senior Caitlyn Naghdi (Carmel, Ind.) placed eighth in a time of 22:12.8. 

Panther runners, sophomore Sawyer Osmun (Fishers, Ind.) ran a time of 23:01.1 claiming 14th place, while teammate senior Madison VanWinkle (Moores Hill, Ind.) rounded out the Hanover field with a 15th place finish and a time of 23:15.9.

Thomas More took second in the team race with 59 points, followed by Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Franklin in third place.

The Blue and Red return to action on Saturday, Sept. 21 as they travel to Terre haute, Ind. for the Rose-Hulman McNichols Invitational.
