Box Score LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Hanover men's soccer team brought the intensity in the second half as they used a two goal outburst to shoot past Brescia on the final day of the Spalding University Tournament, 3-1.
The Panthers (1-1 overall) were led on the day by sophomore Fellipe Busato (Sao Paulo, Brazil), sophomore Leonardo Bottura (Taubate, Sao Paulo, Brazil), and junior Renato Yostsui (Sao Jose Do Rio Preto, Brazil) with one goal apiece. As a team, Hanover fired a game-high 22 shots, 12 of which were on frame.
Brescia struck first in the contest as they hit a chip shot from 30-yards out to take the 1-0 advantage just nine minutes into the opening period.
The Blue and Red looked to respond as junior Ian Waldrop (Louisville, Ky.) took a corner kick that placed the ball in the box for a header by sophomore Evan Redmon (Louisville, Ky.) that was saved by the Brescia keeper. Hanover would finally find the back of the net in the 33rd minute as Bottura connected on a penalty kick to tie the contest 1-1.
The Panthers went on an offensive explosion in the second half as junior Chris Pitre (Belle Chasse, La.) found Redmon who played a ball to Yostsui to give HC the 2-1 lead. They would tack on the game's final goal in the 78th minute as junior Josh Hughes (Lafayette, La.) assisted Busato for the final dagger, 3-1.
Junior Aaron Stocksdale (Louisville, Ky.) recorded the win in frame for Hanover with four saves and moves to 1-1-0 overall on the year.
The Blue and Red return to the pitch on Saturday, September 7 as they welcome Otterbein to the soccer complex. Kick off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
