Box Score HANOVER, Ind. – Heart breaking goal lifts the Battling Bishops past Hanover on Saturday afternoon at the Soccer Complex. The Panthers (2-4-0 overall) tallied a game-high 17 shots, eight of which were on frame.
Trialing 1-0 in the first half, the Panthers continued to push the tempo as junior Nicholas Ash (Louisville, Ky.) looked to find the equalizer in the 17th minute that missed just high of the OWU frame.
Sophomore Leonardo Bottura (Taubate, Sao Paulo, Brazil) took his shot at frame minutes later as he fired off a shot that was saved by the Battling Bishop keeper.
However, Bottura would capitalize on a Battling Bishop miscue in the 32nd minute following a penalty kick that tied the contest, 1-1.
With seconds left in the first half, Ohio Wesleyan delivered a heart-breaking dagger that gave them the 2-1 advantage at the break.
The Blue and Red pressured the Battling Bishop defense for much of the second half as sophomore Luke Eppler (Evansville, Ind.) placed a header on goal in 55th minute that was saved by the OWU goalkeeper.
Minutes later, the Panthers got another chance at the equalizer as junior Josh Hughes (Lafayette, La.) played a ball in the box that once again was saved by the Battling Bishop defensemen.
The Panthers would get one more shot at forcing overtime in the 84th minute as junior Chris Pitre (Belle Chasse ,La.) took a shot that just missed frame.
Hanover returns to action on Friday, September 27 as they take on Spalding.
