Hughes nets a hat trick to lead HC past MSJ

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Senior Josh Hughes (Lafayette, La.) carded a hat trick to propel HC past Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday evening in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action, 5-0. With the win, the Panthers wrap-up the regular season at 12-4-1 overall, 8-1-0 HCAC and claim the no. 2 seed as part of the HCAC Tournament.

Hanover scored early and often in the contest as Hughes provided the first three blows including his first strike off an assist by junior Keegan Marx (Evansville, Ind.) in the 4th minute, 1-0.

The next strike came moments later as Hughes netted a goal inside the 18-yard box off a MSJ miscue that extended the Panther lead. His final blow came just seconds into the second half as he gave HC the 3-0 advantage.

Sophomore Joel Yann (Louisville, Ky.) added a goal in the 82nd minute before sophomore Mason Brown (Louisville, Ky.) connected on a PK to secure the convincing 5-0 victory.

Hanover returns to action at the Soccer Complex on Wednesday, Nov. 3 as they host the semifinal match-up of the HCAC Tournament.
