Penalty kick lifts HC past Manchester in HCAC action

HANOVER, Ind.
– The Hanover men's soccer team captured the 1-0 victory on Saturday afternoon as a penalty kick in the 77th minute sent the Panthers past Manchester. With the win, Hanover moves to 8-3-1 overall and 4-0-0 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action.
 
The opening frame saw a very competitive battle as both teams were able to generate pressure when Hanover looked to break the scoreless tie. Senior Luke Eppler (Evansville, Ind.) provided a fantastic shot on frame that was saved by the Spartan keeper.
 
The Panthers got another great look as sophomore Joel Yann (Louisville, Ky.) placed a shot from point blank that was saved once more by the Manchester goalkeeper.
 
Hanover entered the half with the slim 9-4 margin in shots, led by senior Josh Hughes (Lafayette, La.) and Eppler with two shots a piece.
 
The second half saw Eppler again get pressure in the box as he was able to get a shot that beat the keeper but was negated by an offside call.
 
Hanover broke the scoreless tie in the 77th minute as the Panthers were able to draw a foul in the box that set-up a penalty kick for Hughes. The senior delivered propelling HC to the 1-0 victory.
 
The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 13 when they travel to Franklin. Game time is set for 7:00 PM.
