Men's Soccer bows out of NCAA Tournament after record setting year

LEXINGTON, Va. -  The Hanover men's soccer team saw their record setting season come to an end as they fell in the round of Sweet 16 to Messiah, 3-1.

The Panthers advanced to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 for the first time in program history after defeating both Lynchburg (2-1) and Emory (1-0) in the opening rounds. Head coach Matt Wilkerson finished the year capsizing 100 career wins.

In the contest with Messiah, Hanover wasted little time making themselves known as they were able to get multiple shots on frame just seconds into the contest when senior Carlos Schryver  (Sao Paulo, Brazil) cleaned up the mess giving HC the 1-0 lead.

However, Messiah controlled play from there on out as they found the equalizer in the 31st minute. The blow came off a close-range strike that beat the Panther keeper.

Messiah went on to add two more strikes as they secured the NCAA Tournament advancing victory 3-1.

Hanover finished the year at 15-5-2 overall and winners of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.
